Use this guide to create a hanging protocol (HP), refine how it matches studies, and troubleshoot protocols that do not load as expected in Sirona. Hanging protocol controls are available below the patient information in Viewer 1.
Before You Begin
Before creating a hanging protocol, open a study that represents the workflow you want the protocol to support. Sirona uses the currently open study and series information to help generate the initial protocol criteria.
Create a new hanging protocol
- In Viewer 1, locate the Hanging Protocol field below the patient information.
Select the plus (+) icon to create a new hanging protocol.
Review the default protocol information
When a new hanging protocol is created, Sirona uses the currently open study to populate the following fields:
- Name this protocol
- Describe study for this protocol
As you update Describe study for this protocol, the protocol name and matching criteria will update automatically.
Adjust matching criteria
Use the matching criteria to control how broadly or narrowly the protocol applies. Available criteria may include:
Review matching descriptions
The Matching Descriptions section shows examples of studies that may match the protocol based on the current criteria. Review this section to confirm the protocol will apply to the intended studies.
Edit the layout
- While creating or editing a hanging protocol, select Layouts in the viewer toolbar.
- Choose the layout you want to use.
- Update each viewport as needed by:
- describing the series
- selecting Current or Prior
- using Clear Viewport
- changing the series type if needed
Configure each viewport
Each viewport can use its own classification settings. Sirona shows what each viewport is using to classify the displayed study, based on the patient and series currently open in the viewer.
You can further refine the protocol by:
- describing the series
- selecting whether the series should come from the current study or a prior study
- adjusting other viewport-level matching selections as needed
As these selections change, the Matching Criteria and Matching Descriptions update for review.
If the hanging protocol does not load as expected
Apply the protocol manually
- Select the magnifying glass in the Hanging Protocol area.
- Locate the protocol in the list.
- Select Preview.
- Select Confirm.
Investigate the mismatch
Use Investigation to review the classification differences between the saved hanging protocol and the study that did not load as expected.
Best practices
- Start with a representative study when creating a new hanging protocol so the initial criteria are relevant.
- Use broader criteria when the protocol should apply across many similar studies.
- Use additional criteria such as Anatomic Focus or View Count when the protocol should apply only in specific scenarios.
- Review Matching Descriptions before finalizing the protocol to confirm it will match the intended studies.
- If a protocol does not load as expected, compare the saved criteria with the current study before rebuilding the protocol.
